A CARING venture which says it is “a home full of friendship and love” whose ethos is “your family, their friend”, is a contender in The Press Business Awards.

The entry for the small family-owned and independently managed Fulford Nursing Home says: “At the home, it is clear that they believe in people, not patients. They provide everything their residents need in the widest sense; considerate care, a fulfilling life and support for their friends and families.”

It says “every day is special and different”, with open days, weekly motivation classes, impromptu barbecues, flower arranging, internet surfing, art classes., and even an Elvis tribute singer.

The home, which has entered the Family Business category in the awards, backs the ‘Hello my name is...’ campaign for more compassionate care, based on the simple but vital courtesy of introducing yourself when meeting a patient for the first time.

In the past 12 months Fulford Nursing Home has gone from strength to strength, due in no small part to the determination and tenacity of business manager Elizabeth Hancock and her ability to seek new markets, opportunities and partnerships with local clinical commissioning groups and local authorities.
