A MAJOR event takes place today where young people can find out about hundreds of apprenticeship vacancies across York.

The week after A-level results came and the day before students learn how their GCSEs went, City of York Council will hold its sixth apprenticeship recruitment event later this month at West Offices between 4pm and 7pm.

The event aims to highlight both the business benefits of hiring apprentices and the individual benefits of pursuing an apprenticeship job with training, and will allow young people aged 16 to 24 and their parents to meet recruiting employers, as well as find out about alternative routes to Level 3 qualifications and university.

There will also be the opportunity for attendees to book one-to-one advice and guidance sessions to help them with their next steps after school or college.

About 45 employers and training providers will promote vacancies and share information on their apprenticeship schemes, including Simpson, Nestlé, the RAF, City of York Council, NHS, Portakabin, Tofoo Company, CAVA Medical, Waste Management and many more.

Training providers will also be available to discuss other York-based apprenticeship vacancies and training opportunities, so young people are being encouraged to bring their CVs along.

Cllr Keith Aspden, council deputy leader with responsibility for economic development, said: “This ever-popular event offers the chance for young people to meet recruiting employers as well as support and advice on apprenticeship vacancies as they look to start their career.”
