COMBINING innovation and tradition is a York business which brings together the worlds of bespoke tailoring and digital marketing.

Now Mullen & Mullen has entered the Business Innovation and Family Business of the Year categories in The Press Business Awards 2016.

The company, based in High Petergate, is a family tailoring firm founded by Damien and Dominic Mullen in 2004.

Its entry says managing the growth of this business has involved the development of a personalised marketing and sales model, that supports tailors with a mobile app and marketing support in whatever customer location they are in.

“This has become so effective that local businesses and blue-chip companies have shown an interest using this approach within their own businesses.”

So towards the end of last year the business started delivering this service to ventures ranging from local to international under the brand name MM:Growth.

“Starting with the inspired use of the power of the rivers of Huddersfield to produce fine cloth, through to the modern sustainable hydrophobic suit, tailoring has always been at the forefront of new thinking and ideas.

“Mullen & Mullen proudly continues this tradition of innovation, particularly focusing on marketing, sales and manufacturing processes,” its entry adds.

Under the heading ‘ thinking locally, it says: “To ensure the latest thinking and best capabilities are involved in this development we work closely with the internship bureau at the University of York.

“We have taken on several staff from the University & are running our second internship program ... for dynamic digital and marketing projects and various other roles. These internships bring new thinking to our business and cutting-edge technical skills.

“This also ensures that as business we closely partner with another key contributor to the local community and economy.”
