A NATIONAL hospitality group has acquired its fourth hotel in York.

The Splendid Hospitality Group has purchased the Ibis York Centre Hotel to add to its three other properties in the city - the Grand Hotel & Spa, Hotel Indigo York and Holiday Inn Express York.

The Ibis, on The Mount, has 91 ensuite bedrooms, a cafe and bar and a meeting room.

It will continue trading as an Ibis, and Splendid Hospitality Group has plans to invest £1.5 million to upgrade its facilities over the next two years.

Stuart Bailey, the chief executive for the Splendid Hospitality Group, said: “This is a strategic acquisition for Splendid Hospitality and an ideal fit for our expanding regional portfolio with three existing hotels in York.

“The Ibis York Centre hotel boasts one of the most central locations in York, making it equally suitable for both the business and leisure travellers.

“Ibis belongs to the Accor brand portfolio and we are pleased to further enhance our partnership with Accor.”

Asking why the expanding group portfolio, which has 20 hotels nationally, had made four acquisitions in York, Mr Bailey said:: “Splendid Hospitality Group finds York is a consistent and predictable destination with so much on offer. It also has excellent transport links and infrastructure.

“We now have hotels to suit business and leisure travellers at every level of hospitality and the Ibis York Centre is a perfect fit for our portfolio.”

Its acquisition follows the purchase of the Mercure Bristol Brigstow, and the group owns other city-centre hotels in London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Leeds.

In London it owns and manages two prestigious hotels; the Conrad London St James and Hilton London Bankside.
