A DISTINCTLY cheesy charity day is on offer in York this weekend.

Love Cheese, in Gillygate, is celebrating the opening of its new café and garden by hosting an open day in aid of York Against Cancer on Saturday.

It will be an opportunity for customers old and new to experience the new-look business, which includes a refurbished café and a picturesque courtyard garden with views of York Minster.

Love Cheese was bought by husband and wife Harry and Phoebe Baines in September last year, and has since undergone extensive refurbishment and development.

As well as improving the shop layout and installing a bar, the couple have reopened the 22 seat café and opened up the courtyard garden to the rear of the shop.

Visitors on the open day will enjoy ten per cent off cheeseboards all day as well as a free artisan coffee, with the first 20 guests receiving an additional ten per cent discount.

In addition, ten per cent of takings on the open day will be donated to York Against Cancer, a cause which is very close to the business as Mr Baines has himself survived two battles with cancer.

He said: “The open day will be a celebration of the months of hard work since we bought Love Cheese and we are so excited to be able to share it with everyone.”
