A NORTH Yorkshire tourist attraction has scooped a top award from the British and Irish Zoological Association recognising its commitment to providing an educational day out for all the family.

Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire won the accolade because its ‘Mia and Mylo’ show used new scientific evidence from PhD candidate Sarah Spooner, of the University of York, which resulted in more than 14,000 children learning about animals and their conservation.

The show, created by Hayley Richardson, head of entertainment at Flamingo Land UK, features meerkats Mia and Mylo, pictured above proudly displaying the awards with their show friends, Francesca and Lalaina.

They capture the imagination of visitors as they explain how Flamingo Land helps groups, including the university’s Centre for Integrated Research, Conservation and Learning, based at the resort, to protect animals and rainforests in Africa.
