A NEW president has been appointed to take the lead at the York Society of Chartered Accountants.

The society's AGM, held at the Parade Ring restaurant at York Racecourse, saw Geoff Stockill elected to the role.

Selby based Mr Stockill, who is a director at Leeds accountancy firm MSF Accountants, takes over from outgoing president Nicola Ainscough, managing director of Ainscough Dunlop.

During the meeting Adrian Widdowson, from the York office of Garbutt + Elliott, was elected as vice president.

Mr Stockill, who qualified as an accountant in 1990, said his objectives for his year in office are to "continue the good work of the local society in representing Chartered Accountants in the local area, focusing on greater engagement with members who work outside of general practice".

He also said he wants to form closer links with other professional bodies and local educational establishments, described them as "the breeding ground for future members of the profession".
