A YORK grass specialist and one of the city's video production companies have formed an unlikely collaboration working together to create a music video for a Yorkshire band.

York-based WowGrass saw its felt-backed real grass make its official music video debut after a Yorkshire band featured the company's alternative flooring product in its newest video.

The living, soil-free grass, chosen for its authentic look, was put to unique use for Leeds indie band The Marsicans' music video and features on a rotating stage beneath a bath tub and a glass mirror ball.

Orillo Productions, also based in York, shot the video for the band and called on WowGrass to help with the finishing touches for the set design.

WowGrass development manager Caroline Littler said: "We were only too pleased to supply Orillo Productions with WowGrass for this music video.

"It's fantastic that a music band and living grass have come together for a collaboration like this. It's great to see the grass used in innovative ways, and we are continually pleased by the number of uses people think up for this alternative surface."

Furthering local connections with the video, filming took place at GSP Studios, in Bubwith.

The Marsicans' new single, ‘Swimming' was released on April 22 and the video is viewable online via the band's website and across its social media channels.

Orillo Producer, Robert Dickinson said everyone from the band to the crew was blown away by the effect of the WowGrass.

He said: "This video wasn't created on a high budget so to have something like this grass gives it the extra wow factor. There aren't many videos that have had real grass on the stage, and the band loved it.

"We needed a four metre diameter circle, and at quite short notice too, so it was fantastic that the WowGrass team were so flexible and were able to cut the piece exactly to the size we required - we always enjoy working with Caroline and the team."

Orillo specialise in making online viral content for brands. The production company has produced videos for Jack Wills and Dulux, and has organised pop-up cinema events in York.

WowGrass first provided its living grass for Orillo's pop-up cinema night for the Minster Gardens event in 2012.

Wow Grass was developed by Lindum Turf as an alternative flooring product that is soil-free, ideal for indoor and outdoor events, exhibitions and filming. It is a real grass that is grown onto a felt mat made from recycled British textiles eliminating the potential problem of mess from soil which arises from using traditional turf.
