A CAREER in the carpet industry has gone full circle for a York trader who has set out on his own with the name of the company he worked for more than 40 years ago.

This weekend will see Kirk Jackson open Ebor Carpets in Osbaldwick as he launches his first business, having worked in the trade since leaving school.

The move sees the return of the Ebor Carpets name in York after Mr Jackson purchased the brand, having originally worked for the business from 1976, at the age of 16.

Mr Jackson went on to work with a variety of companies throughout his career, and Ebor Carpets closed around 15 years ago following the retirement of its founder Mike Dyson.

Mr Jackson said: "I decided after more than 40 years it was the right time for me to go it alone and set up my own business.

"When I was looking at names for the business I saw that Ebor Carpets was available and I thought it was especially fitting giving that's where I started my career all those years ago.

"Mr Dyson taught me everyone I know, so it's great to be able to bring back the Ebor name he started.

"We've already had people approach us saying they remember Ebor Carpets, either from when it was in Ebor Street, or later when it moved to Acomb."

Ebor Carpets is working with two contracted carpet fitters, and Mr Jackson said he hopes to employ more staff for the showroom once the business is up and running.
