A YORK haulage company is under new ownership following the completion of a management buy out.

Husband and wife duo Jeremy and Emma Desmond have acquired Sumo Heavy Haulage, based in Melbourne.

Mr Desmond was a driver for a local construction firm, before completing his transport managers exams at Hull University.

He went on to launch Sumo Heavy Haulage under the Sumo UK brand after being appointed by founder Shaun Wealleans.

Mr Desmond launched the business in 2013, building it up to a fleet of four trucks and five trailers.

His wife Emma started working at Sumo UK after college, and was employed there for 14 years, becoming UK sales manager for the business.

Mr Desmond said: "It's a very exciting time for Emma and I, and we are looking forward to a bright future ahead with Sumo Heavy Haulage.

"We will continue to build on our reputation and will provide the high level of service for our current and new customers as the business grows.

"We are a family-orientated business and aim to project that in all we do."

Managing director of Sumo UK, Simon Herring said: "This move allows us to focus on our core business of the design and manufacture of agricultural machinery.

"We are keen to keep a working relationship with Sumo Heavy Haulage, and they will continue to deliver our machines throughout the UK.

"Jeremy has a wealth of knowledge in the logistics industry and with Emma's agricultural sales knowledge, the company can only go from strength to strength and we wish them the very best of luck."
