AN initiative to raise support among MPs for the UK's brewing industry has seen a North Yorkshire brewery showcase its operations creating some of the country's best known beers.

Selby and Ainsty MP Nigel Adams visited the Molson Coors brewery at Tadcaster where he met employees and was given a tour of the facility.

Around 100 staff are employed at the site, where popular beer brands Carling and Coors Light are brewed, as well as British ale Worthington's.

A member of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group, Mr Adams was visiting the brewery to lend his support to the ‘Brew with your MP’ initiative, which was launched last year.

The scheme aims to encourage MPs to visit breweries in their constituency; to learn more about how beer is brewed and discover the vital role that beer and pubs play in the local economy.

Frederic Landtmeters, managing director at Molson Coors UK & Ireland, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Nigel back to the Tadcaster brewery to meet the Molson Coors team and to celebrate their fantastic work.

"The visit was a great opportunity to speak with Nigel about the benefits of three successive beer duty cuts in supporting renewed confidence in the brewing industry and to discuss the forthcoming developments and plans for the Tadcaster brewery."

Mr Adams is supporting the call for a fourth consecutive cut in beer duty in the 2016 Budget, set to be announced next month, in the hope further beer duty cuts will lead to increased investment in the beer industry and the creation of more jobs in the sector.

He said: "As the local MP for Tadcaster, it’s important for me to support local businesses and understand the challenges and opportunities they face.

"Molson Coors plays a significant role in the community here in Tadcaster, making a strong contribution to the local economy."

Operating as a global brewing group, Molson Coors has more than 2,000 employees within its UK & Ireland company, with breweries in Tadcaster, Burton upon Trent, Alton, and Sharp’s brewery in Rock, Cornwall. It has a market share of around 20 per cent of the UK beer market, with a portfolio including Carling, Coors Light, Grolsch, Worthington's, Caffrey's, Cobra, Corona, Doom Bar, and Singha.
