A YORK vehicle lease specialist has become the first in the city to offer fully electric vehicles for hire after taking delivery of one of the greenest fleets in the region.

Autohorn's intake of ten Mercedes Benz electric vehicles is the latest example of the Leeman Road-based firm being the first to introduce new greener technologies to York's roads.

In 2011 Autohorn was one of the first companies in the UK to introduce hybrid vehicles into the rental fleet, then in 2014 it introduced plug-in hybrid vehicles to the fleet which was another first.

This latest delivery makes Autohorn one of the largest buyers of hybrid and electric vehicles in the region as well as being Mercedes Benz York’s largest customer.

The firm also has six of its own electric charging points in the city, contributing to the further expansion of the network of UK charging stations.

Autohorn managing director, said: "We are proud to be leading the way in the car rental market to be the greenest fleet in Yorkshire.

"This marks the largest single delivery of electric vehicles received and we are confident that there is growing demand for these types of vehicles.

"People are focusing on emissions and air quality a lot more now. It's the air you breathe, and the air your children breathe, and there's an increasing awareness.

"Electric and hybrid vehicles are ideal for city centre transport and we offering customers the opportunity to rent one for a day, a week or a month so they can ‘try before they buy’ and see if ‘going electric’ suits their life-style."
