A FORMER senior partner at one the UK's big four accountancy firms has been appointed as the new chairman of regional tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire.

Ron McMillan, who worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers for 38 years, will succeed outgoing chairwoman Clare Morrow, who has been in the role since 2008.

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "I am delighted that Welcome to Yorkshire has made such a high calibre appointment. This is a challenging and rewarding role and I look forward to working with Ron over the years to come.

"I would like to thank Clare Morrow for her tireless efforts over the last seven and a half years. Together we achieved some great successes."

Mr McMillan, who will takeover as chairman on November 1 said: "I am very excited to be joining such an innovative organisation.

"I am looking forward to playing my part in increasing the profile of Yorkshire in the UK and around the world."
