YORK'S McArthur Glen Designer Outlet has opened the doors to its newest store welcoming the arrival of clothing brand Original Penguin.

Well known for it self claimed signature polo shirts, Original Penguin has taken a 1,600 sq ft unit at the Fulford shopping centre.

It arrival in York comes in the 60th anniversary year of the American-based fashion brand.

Mike Thomas, centre Manager at York Designer Outlet, said: "York Designer Outlet is thrilled to welcome Original Penguin this September, as the brand will offer our shoppers an extensive range of pieces across fashion and lifestyle.

"The brand joins our existing portfolio of similar brands, including Lacoste, Hackett, and Ted Baker."

Born out of the Munsingwear underwear factory in the US in 1955, the brand has grown to achieve global recognition with its Penguin logo Pete the Penguin, which started appearing on polo shirts in the 1950’s.

Francisco Hoffmann, managing director of Perry Ellis Europe, said: "The designer outlet at McArthurGlen York is a great opportunity for Original Penguin as we have a very loyal following in the North of UK and this gives us the freedom to showcase the entire lifestyle brand.

"We look forward to bringing something new and exciting to the outlet that complements the existing retail and leisure offering."

Earlier this year the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet welcomed York-based independent travel agency Amigo Travel to its portfolio of more than 120 other fashion, accessories and lifestyle brands.
