A BUSINESS founded by students in York has been shortlisted for the ‘Social Enterprise (UK)’ category in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

The Student Agency is a student-run letting agency, started by University of York students Ryan Hill and Emily Atkins, pictured, and born out of a bad experience when trying to arrange accommodation.

Already with more than six years experience in the property industry, Mr Hill and Miss Atkins decided to take on the challenge and use their skills to help the students in York.

The Student Agency was short-listed for Social Enterprise due to its aims of providing a fairer service to students; abolishing agency fees; and giving a voice to international students who may particularly struggle in the letting process.

Originally starting at the University of York, the business has expanded to York St John University and aims to reach other universities in the country.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, take lace on November 25 at the Ballroom Southbank, in London.
