YORK housebuilder Persimmon has started work on a new multi-million pound housing development in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

The Persimmon Homes Yorkshire division was given the go-ahead by Selby District Council to begin construction on the site off Low Street, with 224 homes scheduled to be built.

The Ceretic Park development, as it will become known, is expected to support more than 500 jobs and will deliver a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes.

Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: "The location is key. Sherburn-in-Elmet offers buyers the best of both worlds; it’s a popular well-presented village with all the convenient local amenities needed for daily life plus excellent commuter links by road and rail to Leeds, York, Hull and Sheffield."

Schemes will also be available to help buyers move into the homes, including the Government-backed Help to Buy, Persimmon’s Part Exchange and Home Change packages.

Mr Thubron said: "Our sales team will be on site from October 10, and we are working towards releasing our first properties for sale later that month.

"We have already received a number of enquiries."

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire employs 40 people at the York office, and built 400 new homes in the Yorkshire area in 2014. The company will build a further 450 in 2015 and 600 in 2016.
