THE second annual Hambleton Business Awards have seen nine winners presented prizes from more than 220 entries.

Organised by Hambleton District Council, the event saw Ian Ashton, who runs the World of James Herriot in Thirsk, received the Hambleton Champion Award in recognition of the time and support he has given to Thirsk, Hambleton and beyond as a business ambassador, attracting visitors from America and China and building strong links between the tourist attraction and the wider business community.

Recognition was also bestowed upon Barry Dodd, her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire and chairman of the Local Enterprise Partnership, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for both his work as a local business man creating employment and latterly for his role as chairman of the LEP.

The Apprenticeship Champion Award was presented to Well Heeled Boutique in Thirsk which has not only supported their own apprentice, but encouraged other businesses to take local apprentices on within their companies.

Bedale and Villages Community Forum won the Community Contribution award for social media and website developments in partnership with local businesses to promote a consistent brand for the town.

The Best Dressed Window Award was won by Two Bees Treat Boutique in Thirsk for "creativity and commitment to quality and perfection".

The Engaging Young Minds Award went to Stewart Brennan from Tanton Technology in Stokesley, while Ryedale Plasterers from Brompton, near Northallerton won the Learning and Development Award.

Olivia's Artisan Bakery and Cafe in Northallerton won the Local is Best Award and Stokesley based IT-IS International won the Innovation Award.
