A PRIVATE engineering company in York has delivered on contracts to supply cooling towers to major projects in two of the North's biggest cities.

Aqua Cooling, which specialises in providing effective cooling systems to a range of industries, has supplied the MediaCityUK in Manchester and Clarke Energy in Liverpool.

After extensive design consultation Aqua Cooling supplied SPX Marley low-rise NC8400 Series Cooling Towers fitted with low-sound fans to comply with strict noise and height restrictions.

Peter Fowles, York-based projects engineer at Aqua Cooling, said: "Our brief in each case was to install a system that would remove a considerable heat load and improve on energy efficiency, while operating within strict noise restrictions and height limitations.

"Under these circumstances we recommended evaporative wet cooling systems, and this NC model makes it a lot easier to cool larger applications with more value, not only removing a significant amount of heat but also lowering operation costs and energy usage."

"We pride ourselves on having highly-skilled engineers who are able to understand and come to grips with our clients’ needs and are talented in providing full-service customer solutions that will meet those requirements fully,."

Aqua Cooling was commissioned by a multinational data-centre hosting provider to install four cooling towers for its new Manchester flagship facility close to the MediaCityUK development.

Located in the vicinity of ITV’s Coronation Street studios, limiting noise output was a high-priority consideration.

Aqua Cooling’s engineers modified the proposed cooling system to include low sound options in order to keep the data centre’s water chillers cold while ensuring noise was kept to a minimum.

The bespoke system is also designed so that the water chillers can largely be replaced by the cooling tower during colder weather and, in “free-cooling” mode, their energy efficiency can increase by up to ninety five per cent.

Aqua Cooling also supplied two cooling towers for a Clarke Energy power plant, successfully designing and installing a system to meet the demands of a very specific brief.

The Liverpool-based multinational power plant specialist needed a system that would both lower the temperature of the generator and cool the absorption chiller used to recycle any excess heat.

Aqua Cooling specialises in global cooling solutions for various industry sectors including power generation, data centres and manufacturing.

The firm has office in York and Hampshire, and a sister company in Dallas, Texas, USA.
