A RISE in property-market confidence since the general election has seen revenues rise for York-housebuilder Persimmon.

Issuing a trading update ahead of its interim results, due to be announced in August, the Fulford-based firm said it has its half year revenues are up 12 per cent to £1.34 billion compared to the same period last year.

In the six months to June 30, Persimmon's new home legal completion volumes increased by seven per cent to 6,855 units.

The company said customer demand has been supported by an increasingly competitive mortgage market over the last six months, together with continued growth in employment and some "welcome improvement "in disposable incomes.

Simon Usher, deputy managing director of Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: "Confidence has improved since the General Election in May and in the first half of 2015 our new home legal completions rose.

"In the second half of 2015, we will launch a further 125 new developments across England, Wales and Scotland. Locally, we will be opening new developments in Scunthorpe, Harworth and Shelburn in Elmet.

"It’s not just vital new housing that we are creating. In the last two years, since June 2013, we have seen a 57 per cent growth in our employee numbers from 2578 to 4053, which means the business has employed an extra 61 people every month for the last two years.

"This growth can be seen locally, with our team expanding every month both in the regional head office and across our developments."
