A FAMOUS antiques dealer’s shop in York once again has a cafe after more than a decade without.

Josh Elwers has opened The Red House Cafe in the well known red painted antiques centre in Duncombe Place, owned by celebrity dealer Tim Hogarth. Located on the first floor, the venture marks the return of a cafe to the centre, in the place of a book shop which has operated therefrom the space for the last decade.

Mr Elwars said: “Tim wanted to turn the space back into a cafe, and I saw an advert looking for someone to operate it. I’ve worked in catering since school, and now, at the age of 24, I thought it would be a great opportunity to run my own business.

“We’re six weeks down the line with it, and it’s going really well.”

“It’s very popular with tourists, especially Americans and Australians who really like to browse the antiques and try a cream tea. And we’re starting to build up regular clientele from locals too.”
