YORK'S newest hotel is embracing the city's confectionery heritage by teaming up with York's Chocolate Story attraction.

Hotel Indigo, a new 101-bedroomed hotel which has recently been built in Walmgate, will be working with the York-based attraction to offer chocolate themed breaks to the city.

Mike Sweeting, manager for Hotel Indigo York, which is due to open this summer, said: "The design and décor of our new hotel pays homage to the neighbourhood’s chocolate heritage including the story of Rowntree’s, so it makes perfect sense for us to work with York’s Chocolate Story to keep this local legacy alive."

York's Chocolate Story is part of the Continuum Attractions portfolio, headquartered in Margaret Street, just around the corner from the new hotel in Walmgate, which is the same street as where Mary Tuke opened her grocery shop more than 200 years ago, which was later sold to the Rowntree family.

Nikki Jacobs, general manager at York’s Chocolate Story, in Kings Square, said: "It’s exciting to be working with the first Hotel Indigo for York which is aptly located right in the heart of York’s chocolate heritage.

"We look forward to welcoming new guests to our vibrant attraction where the chocolate story lives on."

Hotel Indigo is part of the Splendid Hospitality group, which last year purchased York’s only five-star hotel, the previously named Cedar Court Grant Hotel & Spa, in Station Rise.

Splendid also owns the York Holiday Inn Express in Tadcaster Road.
