PLANS are being put in place for the return of York Business Week with a call to the city's businesses to get involved.

The sixth annual York Business Week will once again be held in November, with five-day schedule of event to support local enterprise.

Following a similar format to last year, which saw attendance figures of more than 1,500 people, the event will be overseen by York Business Engagement Group, with individual organisations and businesses invited to organise their own events under the Business Week umbrella.

Engagement group director Emma Smailes, said: "York Business Week has always been for the businesses of York, and it needs to continue to be business led, which I think it will be.

"We've been in touch with businesses asking if they would be interested and have already had responses from 14 businesses, and not just businesses we have previously worked with.

"Im so delighted that all these businesses have come forward so quickly.

"We've also had businesses offer their services to do the website, to do the accounts, to offer meeting spaces; there's a real feeling of let's get this working together.

"We're just trying to get someone on board at the moment to help with pr.

"We're trying to work with the local business associations, encouraging them to host their own events, with support from us.

"They are the lifeblood of businesses in York. We want to say look how fantastic they are are, and really celebrate something that York is doing well."

Due to get underway on November 16, York Business Week is already taking shape with the planned return of the Federation of Small Business's networking event, the City of York Council's York Business Conference, York College's Apprentice Graduation Ceremony, and the 25th annual Press Business Awards, alongside a skills event co-hosted by the University of York and York St John University.

Anyone interested in getting involved in 2015's York Business Week is invited to an organisers meeting on July 6, from 10am to 12pm. For more information contact Mrs Smailes on (01751) 467165 or email emma.smailes@fsb.org.uk
