DELEGATES from across the north of England descended on York yesterday as the city hosts a programme of events to mark International Coaching Week.

After being the only location in the world to host a city-wide programme of events last year, International Coaching Week (ICW), is again being celebrated in York.

Coaching York, an organisation set up by coaches in the city to promote their profession in a bid to make the "coaching capital" of the UK, is working with businesses, volunteers and City of York Council to host the event.

With a theme of Coaching: Conversations that Make a Difference this year’s ICW programme in York got under way yesterday with a launch event at the council's West Offices featuring a variety of speakers, including the council's chief executive Kersten England, and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation chief executive Julia Unwin.

Running until Friday, the programme features 18 other events.

Karen Hickman, who is leading the project this year, said: "International coaching week has got off to a fantastic start in York.

"We welcomed around 50 people today, and have around 140 signed up over the course of the week, including some corporate and private sector representatives as well as public sector."
