INDEPENDENT Yorkshire food producers are heading to York for a suppliers event at one of the city's Tesco stores.

The five businesses, which have supply deals with the supermarket giant, will be at Tesco's Tadcaster Road store on Friday in a bid to introduce shoppers to local produce.

Taking part, and giving out free samples and tasters, will be James Potter Free Range Eggs, Leeds Brewery, Bingham's, Jackson Bakery & Yorkshire Provender.

Shoppers can expect to see colleagues from the businesses on-hand to talk about their locally-produced eggs, beer, potted beef, bread and soup.

James Potter from the James Potter Free Range Eggs, based near Thirsk, said: "We're all really looking forward to saying hello to customers at Tesco's Tadcaster Road store in York and tempting them to try local products from so many local suppliers.

"We're proud that together we're putting products made locally in Yorkshire on the map and it's great to have the support of a retailer like Tesco along the way."

Tesco Tadcaster Road store manager David Cluf said: "We know that supporting local suppliers is important to our customers and we're absolutely delighted to be working with so many producers in Yorkshire."
