A CITY centre hotel has been ranked as having the fastest internet connection among its counterparts in York.

Middletons Hotel in Skeldergate has won the accolade after taking up fibre optic technology supplied by CityFibre.

The ranking was granted by hotelwifitest.com which independently ranks hotel connection speeds. It revealed that Middletons has speeds of 21.6Mbps.

Henny Clark, managing director at Middletons, said: “Providing super fast internet speed means guests can watch BBC iPlayer and browse on their phone with no buffer frustration.”

The award comes as York prepares to have the fastest broadband speeds in Britain. Last year the city gained UNESCO Media Arts status and with Fujitsu & CityFibre rolling out superfast networks by connecting fibre optic cables direct to premises business’ superfast internet services are coming into play.

Ms Clark said businesses need to take advantage of the new internet speeds available and ensure York is perceived as a city of the future and not just famous for its past.
