A YORK-based printing company has made a £100,000 capital investment in new machinery to meet a growing demand for digital services.

Wood Richardson, based in Haxby Road, has invested the six-figure sum in a new Versant 2100 digital printer from Xerox in a move to meet growing demand from customers for quick turnaround and small quantity print runs.

The move has been made as the 110-year-old company continues its investment programme to keep the business up to date with the latest trends in technology.

Alan Coulson, sales director at Wood Richardson, said: "Demand for our digital print service has grown rapidly over recent years and we wanted to add to our existing digital print capability by investing in the very latest technology available.

"We can now offer customers a wider range of digital options, helping them to be meet their deadlines on smaller print runs while still producing creative, eye catching pieces of print."

The investment has already seen return custom after York beauty therapist Julie Mercer chose to use Wood Richardson’s new digital service to produce her business cards and a small run of her brochures.

She said: "I have used Wood Richardson a number of times. I often need things printing quickly and in relatively small print runs, especially for things like business cards and special promotions, and the new digital service is perfect for this."

Mr Coulson added: "Julie is typical of the type of customer we work for with digital print. While she sometimes needs litho print for larger orders, she also has special one-off items that she just needs to get done quickly, but which still reflects the quality of her brand."

Based in purpose-built facilities in Haxby Road, Wood Richardson was established in 1905 and has been run by the Richardson family since the 1920s. Bosses have attributed more than a century of business success to the firm's ongoing investment in the latest technology and innovations in print and production machinery combined with the skills and experience of a more than 100 years of craftsmanship to provide a team of print experts.

The company works closely with a wide range of customers throughout Yorkshire.
