A YORK brewery has teamed up with its US counterpart to create a new beer crafted from more than 100 years of combined brewing expertise.

Rudgate Brewery has crafted Atlantic Crossing Best Bitter working with Denver-based Hogshead Brewery, with the ale due to be launched tomorrow at the Craft Brewers Conference, in Portland, Oregon The collaboration is a first for both of the craft breweries and has been in the pipeline for a number of years.

The two breweries initially met at the Craft Brewers Conference in Denver in 2013, then earlier this year Rudgate contacted Hogshead to discuss a potential collaboration.

Craig Lee, Rudgate's managing director, said: "We're like minded when it comes to producing quality beers - and felt that a collaboration ale would be a fantastic way to combine our talents and fuse our brewing styles."

Rudgate Brewery was established in 1992, with the original brewery situated in the former ammunition building of RAF Marston Moor Airfield.

The name comes from the old Roman road of ‘Rudgate' which runs through the airfield.

The brewery was purchased in 2008 by its current owner Craig Lee who has worked for the company since 1996. The company has since increased production by more than 200 per cent and in 2011 they expanded into a new modern facility built over the original site.

Hogshead Brewery owner Steve Kirby had lived in the US on and off for 25 years, and upon return missed the availability of "a proper pint", leading to the launch of the brewery in 2010.
