PHILANTHROPIST millionaire Marcelle Speller – the founder of localgiving.com – is due to speak in York.

She will be speaking about why she has given more than £3 million to charities at a York Professionals event to be held at Barclays on the evening of Thursday, April 23.

Alongside Marcelle, pictured, Paul Dack, from The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, will speak about their history as modern philanthropists and Jan Garill, chief executive of the Two Ridings Community Foundation will present on current priorities for action.

Rachel Goddard, chairwoman of York Professionals, said: “It’s all too easy to forget the bigger picture when we are busy focusing on the bottom line so we are excited to be bringing the story of modern philanthropy to York Professionals.

“With giving being more of an attitude rather than something you do when you’ve got money, we’ll hear the journey of Marcelle’s life – from humble upbringings to making her fortune through co-founding www.holiday-rentals.com, why she chose to give to many and what she gets in return.”

The event is open to both members and non-members of York Professionals. To book a place at this event, email admin@york-professionals.co.uk or phone Jo Pickering, administrator, on 01904 435363.
