February 1.It was interesting to read in today's Herald, Page 7, that

Phil Gallie has been selected to fight the Tory marginal in Ayr.

It is particularly interesting that in the same paper on Page 9, Bill

Clark describes Mr Gallie as one of the ''more user-friendly'' Tories

representing the less strident Thatcher policies.

Given his very anti-assembly views and in particular his views on

those who continue to fight the poll tax -- he stated at a public

meeting that he believes non-payers should be disfranchised -- I fear

the user-friendly Tories would be no less strident in pursuing

anti-Scottish policies than their currently elected cronies.
