THE skyline is changing over Hungate as workers reach new heights on the £19 million Hiscox development.

The project to create a new flagship office for the insurance firm will see the frame completed at the end of March, which will in turn allow the brick panels and glazing to be installed by the middle of this year.

The brick panels will be constructed off-site and installed in pieces to cover the South West and South East facing building walls.

Hiscox said: "We’ve spent a lot of time considering the bricks that we use to ensure our building is complementary to the surrounding area.

"Steve Langan, chief executive of Hiscox Insurance Company, even visited the brick fascade factory in Eindhoven to input into this process as it is one of the most important elements of the building."

A total of 69 different brick sizes will be used to form the woven brick pattern and curving corners of the building, with the panels vary in weight from three to 13 tonnes.

Glazing works, along with the completion of the roof, will ensure the building is water tight by the middle of the year.
