BUSINESSES in and around Selby are being invited to find out how they can benefit from this year’s inaugural Tour de Yorkshire.

Stage two of the cycling race will start outside Selby Abbey on Saturday, May 2.

Selby District Council has teamed up with Welcome to Yorkshire to help local businesses find out more about how they can make the most of this unique opportunity. Although on a smaller scale to last year’s Tour de France, the organisers expect a range of high profile teams to take part.

During stage two the riders will head from Selby to Beverley before turning northwards towards Norton and finishing the stage in York.

On Tuesday, March 17, Selby District Council is hosting a free event at Selby Civic Centre, featuring head of the York-based Bishopthorpe Road Traders’ Association, Johnny Hayes, who will talk about the experience of traders during last year’s Tour de France.

Attendees will also be able to hear more about the race and issues such as branding from Welcome to Yorkshire, alongside details of a festival of cycling planned in Selby during the race weekend.
