A YORK-based building restoration specialist is anticipating awards success after seeing several of its projects shortlisted in this year’s RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards.

As reported in The Press last week, the 2015 awards, which are organised annually by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, has seen five restoration projects in York shortlisted, include The Press offices, the Judges Lodging in Lendal, Bootham Green in Clifton, Network Rail’s Rail Operating Centre and York’s Velodrome.

Two of these schemes were completed by construction teams from William Anelay, with the firm also behind three other shortlisted projects in the awards.

William Anelay’s work on transforming the Poads building in Walmgate into new offices for The Press has seen the project shortlisted in the Commercial Award, while their work on Judges Lodgings in Lendal is shortlisted for both the Building Conservation Award and the Tourism & Leisure Award.

Elsewhere in the region, a number of other Anelay projects are competing against each other in the conservation category, with the company having completed contracts for other shortlisted entries Sheffield Cathedral, World at Wentworth, and St Bartholemew’s Chapel at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which is also a finalist in the Tourism & Leisure category.

Richard Anelay, marketing assistant at Osbaldwick-based William Anelay, said: “We’re really thrilled to have so many projects in the running for these regional awards.

“They represent a great deal of skill and hard work that we are justifiably proud of.”

Last year The Florence Institute, Liverpool, another project undertaken by William Anelay, won its regional award, before being named winner of the National RICS Awards for Building Conservation.
