BEER brewed at a North Yorkshire monastery will be available to train passengers for the first time following a new partnership with York-headquartered Grand Central Rail.

For one month only, Grand Central will be the only rail provider to serve Ampleforth Abbey Beer.

Based on a Benedictine recipe that dates all the way back to 1608, the beer won Ampleforth Abbey Best Drinks Producer at the latest Flavours of Herriot Country Awards, which is sponsored by Grand Central.

Gillian Dewar, of Ampleforth Abbey, said: “Our beer is based on a centuries-old recipe, but having it served on trains is completely new for us.

“We’re really pleased to be able to extend the reach and for passengers travelling up and down the country to enjoy it.”

Sean English, chief operating officer at Grand Central Rail, said: “Our trains already feature a selection of locally sourced food and drink products, ensuring that passengers receive a taste of the dynamic flavours available along our routes. Ampleforth Abbey Beer is a great addition to this and we are delighted to have it on board.”
