A YORK bike retailer is expanding the business's offering with the launch of a new coaching service for performance cyclists.

The Giant Store York, in Lord Mayor's Walk, has recruited cycling coach Thomas Ramsey, a recent graduate of BSc Sports Performance Conditioning at York St John University, into a new full-time role to deliver coaching services to clients.

The Giant Store York is owned and managed by brother and sister duo David Trotter and Nicola Doody, who are confident there is real demand for the new service from their growing customer base of performance cyclists.

Mrs Doody said: "Sustainable growth for our business is all about creating a ‘hub’ for cyclists, and offering everything they need to get the most out of riding, whether that’s the perfect new bike, optimal riding position or simply opportunities to get out riding with us.

"Effectively devised and regularly revised bespoke training programs are essential to achieving performance potential, and ultimately getting the most out of riding so this new service really complements what we already offer in store."

Testing will take place in the Giant Store York’s on-site WattBike performance suite which was installed last November, and at York St John University’s lab for V02 max testing.

Mr Ramsay, said: "Physiological fitness testing is crucial to effective training programs, as it allows us to precisely define and refine fitness levels, training zones, targets and progress. It’s great to have the facilities on-site to be able to deliver this service effectively."
