GLOBAL chip manufacturer McCain hosted politicians at its North Yorkshire site in a bid to assist with their fact finding mission.

Yorkshire & the Humber MEP, Timothy Kirkhope and conservative parliamentary candidate for Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake, visited one of their constituency's major employers McCain at its Scarborough factory, which has been the firm's UK head office for more than 45 years.

During their visit, Mr Kirkhope and Mr Hollinrake gained an insight into the company’s history, as well as their current operations in the UK and globally.

McCain Foods’ corporate affairs director, Bill Bartlett, said: "Provenance is very important to McCain. We’re proud to work closely with more than 300 British growers, many of whom are based in Yorkshire.

"We were pleased to show Timothy and Kevin the strong relationships we’ve built with the UK agriculture industry over the past four and half decades."

Noting McCain’s credentials as a valued business and employer in Scarborough, Mr Kirkhope said: "I was particularly pleased to hear about McCain's early involvement with the engagement of apprentices, recognising the importance of investing in their skills base for the long-term development of the business. It’s clear McCain look after its staff, many of whom have been with them for years."

Mr Hollinrake added: "After visiting McCain Foods, it’s evident that the company is a respected employer in the area and has good relationships with its growers and customers. Having come to Scarborough in 1968, McCain are obviously proud of the local roots they’ve developed.

"Seeing the positive impact local companies bring to the area, securing investment for the long-term growth of such businesses is essential."
