A YORK firm of building service engineers is celebrating a raft of new contract wins valued at more than £4.4 million.

The first of the new contracts for Osbaldwick-based J H Shouksmith and Sons is to deliver £1.2 million worth of mechanical and electrical building services for The Edge, a new student accommodation block in Leeds, where it is working with main contractor Tolent Construction Ltd.

Elsewhere in Leeds, Shouksmiths has also been appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical building services to the Asquith House and Austin Hall student accommodation developments.

The properties, which stand side by side, are set to offer 298 bedrooms and studios over six floors.

The project value to Shouksmiths is for £1.8 million and work is due to start on site in the New Year, with completion due in August 2015 in time for the new intake of students.

The company has also just started on site on a £1.4 million mechanical and electrical project at the Court Rooms in Bristol.

Working for main contractor Watkin Jones, the project is to develop a mixed use block on the site of the old Magistrates court in the heart of the city which will comprise 348 student rooms plus retail and office space.

As well as its student accommodation projects, J H Shouksmith and Sons Ltd is also working on a number of housing schemes in South Yorkshire and home refurbishment projects in Doncaster.

The company also has a specialist Maintenance and Refrigeration division based in Leeds, which works for clients in the commercial, leisure, industrial and domestic housing sectors.
