YORK Science Park has recently welcomed six new businesses to its start-up space, Springboard.

The site's latest residents include a company working on a new networking site, a specialist Internet Service Provider, a gallery and exhibition design service, a communications training company, an events company and a property investment adviser.

Kim Hodgson, business development manager at York Science Park, said: "The demand for our start-up space continues to grow and it’s great to welcome a new tranche of creative and innovative entrepreneurs to York Science Park."

Situated in close proximity to the University of York's Computer Science Department, Department of Theatre, Film & TV, plus the Law and Management Schools, Springboard was established in 2010 by York Science Park Limited in a bid to help new businesses grow and flourish. Residents also benefit from direct access to the University of York’s Research Innovation Office, offering further support in helping new ventures to establish and grow.

The new residents include BahGum.com, a newly-launched networking site business which connects potential job candidates to companies seeking to recruit.

Created to change how candidates present themselves, BahGum.com enables its members to create a customised profile.

Landlord Broadband, which specialises in supplying broadband and Wi-Fi solutions to landlords and letting agents, is another one of the new residents.

Managing director Andrew Simpson said: “We think of Wi-Fi as the fourth essential utility so our service is tailored specifically for landlords and letting agents.”

Also moving in to Springboard is In Flow Training, a communications training company working with SMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs, founded by former professional actor and teacher Dominic Colenso.

Springboard's fourth new tenant is Petrichor, which offers exhibition, gallery and museum design services to the cultural heritage sector, while Elzo Events, born out of events business Now & Then Events, has also moved in.

The final new business is Alexander C James, established by University of York graduate Alex Szepietowski, who has built a portfolio of highly yielding properties throughout Yorkshire, and works with clients to make their funds work harder for them, giving safe, secure and substantial investment returns.

The 21-acre York Science Park also features the Innovation, Bio and IT Centres, The Catalyst, Springboard in the Ron Cooke Hub and Enterprise House, making York the first UK Science Park to offer dedicated IT, bio and knowledge based incubation space on a single site.
