A YORK hairdressing salon has celebrated its birthday with a bang, raising more than £1,000 for charity.

Bang Hair, on Low Petergate, celebrated their seventh birthday with a charity fundraising party, offering guests the chance to check out the latest hair fashions for the autumn/winter season and win prizes including facials, a free hair makeover and a car from Jaguar York for the weekend as part of the celebrations held in Coney Street's Pitcher & Piano bar.

The salon, which was recently featured in Hello! magazine as official bridal stylists to newly-wed Georgia Jones, formerly Georgia Horsley, of Norton, raised £1,060 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer from the event.

Bang Director Jonathan Cotton said that they chose Breakthrough Breast Cancer as the salons charity for the year after a successful fundraising drive in the summer raised £500.

He said: "We're absolutely thrilled that we have now managed to triple that amount for the charity with the help of other local businesses and the generosity of our guests at our birthday party."
