A TIMER construction specialist in York is seeing a growth in business from the education sector as schools in Yorkshire prepare to create an extra 3,200 places.

The Stable Company, which designs, builds and fits out timber buildings, has seen a 75 per cent rise in its education business in 2014 alone.

With pressure increasing for new homes targets to be met, the knock-on impact to schools has been brought to the fore in a recent report by North Yorkshire County Council, which highlighted a £40 million investment in school expansion and creation.

The Stable Company team has subsequently grown from 20 to 31 staff as schools across the region look for suitable answers to the need for increased facilities such as kitchens, playgrounds and classrooms.

The team recently completed a new classroom building for a primary school The Castle Academy in Consibrough, near Doncaster.

Gareth Barber, managing director of The Stable Company said: "Consibrough is a great example of a school which urgently needed more space and the results are an exemplar for what can be achieved, even if the design restrictions are challenging as they were in this case as it was a hillside site.

"The education side of our business has grown exponentially and this report highlights that the demand for more school spaces will only increase in the next five to ten years.

"We are working with a large number of schools who appreciate that timber buildings are long term solutions to these challenges and the results are dynamic, engaging spaces which children love and importantly, can be delivered within budget constraints."
