YORK healthcare mutual Benenden is expanding its Wellbeing portfolio as the division approaches its first anniversary.

Benenden Wellbeing, which was created to offer life services alongside Benenden's healthcare offering in November last year, has launched a new ranged of health assessments.

The move has seen Benenden, which employs 250 staff at its headquarters in Holgate, team up with BMI Healthcare and Screenetics to launch the service.

Jon Craven, managing director at Benenden Wellbeing said: "We are delighted to launch our health assessments service which has been developed to provide a comprehensive insight into the state of an individual’s health.

"Being proactive about your health and wellbeing is really important and our health assessments can help spot early signs of conditions and health issues, which may otherwise have gone unnoticed.

"The assessments will be led by healthcare professionals who are committed to providing high quality service and offering expert guidance on a wide range of health issues."

The health assessment service is the latest offering in Benenden Wellbeing's portfolio, following from its first product, the Independent Living initiative, offering members access to living aids through a partnership with healthcare.co.uk

Earlier this year Benenden, which is a finalist in the Large Business of the Year and the Best Business and Community Link categories in the Press Business Awards, acquired Scottish insurance brokers Keegan & Pennykid, which will eventually fall within the Benenden Wellbeing division.

The acquisition of the insurance brokers followed Benenden Wellbeing launching its own travel insurance in May, trading under Benenden Insurance Services.

Benenden's chief executive Marc Bell has since revealed plans to launch home and motor insurance next year, also under Benenden Insurance Services.

Mr Bell said: "For many years we were offering one service, a complementary service to the NHS. But we felt that wasn’t enough.

"For the last 15 months we have been diversifying into general insurance. We launched travel insurance in June and that has got off to a flying start.

"We are now looking to launch other general insurance products such as home and motor in the next year.

"We are aiming to build a company that people join and have access to a range of health and well being products."

The entire Benenden Health group now has just under 900,000 members, and reported turnover of £90 million last year.
