YORKSHIRE accountancy firm BHP has outlined a five year growth plan for its York office after acquiring a practice in the city.

The Sheffield-headquartered business took over Barron and Barron, in Micklegate, in January 2013, and has recently appointed a new partner for the office in the form of Daniel Sowden.

The appoint comes as BHP outlines a its strategy to grow the York business by 50 per cent over the next five years.

While the firm has initially been focussing on growing relationships with existing York clients, partners say they are now in a position to grow their portfolio while also extending their staff base, having already taken on five new employees in York.

BHP managing partner John Warner said: "We are a general practice but where we see areas for growth are in landed estates, charities and not for profit organisations, and leisure and tourism, which were already significant areas of the York business.

"We also see further opportunity for growth by promoting our specialisms from other offices where we have particular strengths in corporate finance and tax planning and advice as well as a strong health care offering."

BHP's move to York followed the acquisition of a Leeds practice in 2011. Mr Warner said: "We felt that the foot print we wanted in Yorkshire meant a York office was important to us.

"The niches that Barron and Barron operated within fit very well with our firm and our ambitions."
