YORK’S Dean Court Hotel is celebrating success in the kitchen as a new general manager takes over the reins.

The hotel in Duncombe Place has been awarded a second AA Rosette for its restaurant thanks to the efforts of chef Stuart Black.

The accolade comes just weeks after the appointment of new general manager Kevin McDonald, who has joined the 37-bedroomed hotel from the Mercure York Fairfield Manor.

Mr McDonald started his career in hospitality in South Africa.

He said: “Winning a second rosette is a great achievement for the team here, and a testament to all their hard work.

“I’ve worked in hotels for many years and I always intended to settle in the UK as my parents are from Scotland.

“I was working in London when I was offered a chance to transfer to York and have worked for the past five years at the Mercure Fairfield.

“When the opportunity came up to work in the city centre, in this beautiful hotel right under the shadow of York Minister I couldn’t pass it up.

“It has been an adjustment for me but the Dean Court has a lovely atmosphere and a very strong client base, and as such performs exceptionally well as a hotel.”
