YORKSHIRE furniture brand DFS has opened its first store in York as part of a £19 million extension at Clifton Moor Retail Park.

The new store is the 101st in the Doncaster-headquartered firm's portfolio, and was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of York as well as Lee Hare, manager of the Scarborough British Heart Foundation Branch, to mark the fundraising partnership between DFS and the charity.

DFS store manager Dale Goodwin, said: "It was great to get the doors open to our first store in York; as a Yorkshire based company it’s even more exciting for us.

"It’s a good location and the new store is a great addition to the local retail landscape."

The extension at Clifton Moor by British Land, which was backed by Tesco, will also see York welcome Wren Living in a 16,900 sq ft store on a ten-year lease, and a 14,500 sq ft Harvey's on a ten-year lease in addition to DFS's 15 year deal.

Oak Furniture Land has also agreed a ten-year lease for 8,000 sq ft, while Scandinavian furniture and homewares brand JYSK has relocated and is taking 7,500 sq ft on a ten-year lease.
