AN artisan baker has coupled award success with business expansion as Dough opens in York.

The Italian-inspired bakery has opened in Bootham, just over a year after the business was created in Easingwold.

The second shop comes as Dough has been awarded three Great Taste gold stars for its signature bake - the Italian Almond biscuit.

Dough is run by husband and wife team Colin and Heidi Poma-Young, and was set up in May last year by Mr Poma-Young after he was made redundant from his job as a business development manager at a large environmental consultancy.

He decided to turn a passion and hobby into a full-time job, and with the help of his Italian father-in-law, who owns a restaurant in Beverley, he opened Dough.

Mr Poma Young said: "We have been delighted with the reception the new shop has received/

"The local community have been brilliant. Our focus is on delicious, fresh food, well made, and there seems to be a real appetite for that here.

"There are a lot of changes to face now with running two shops, so we are working to optimise what we are doing.

"We are working on raising our profile and looking to expand our offering."

The Bootham shop is served by Dough's bakery in Easingwold.
