A NORTH Yorkshire family that has built up two businesses from scratch is appearing on television next week.

The Keebles’ new company ‘HECK’ was set up in 2013 and in just over 12 months of production now retails in almost 1,000 stores nationwide, including Tesco, and is on track to hit its five-year turnover target of £7million.

HECK which employs the three junior Keebles, but also many other friends and family will be featured on BBC2’s ‘The Fixer’ on Monday.

The observational documentary series saw Alex Polizzi spend time with the business, offering advice and criticism on the way forward.

Debbie and Andrew Keeble started out in 2002 at the Thirsk Industrial Park with ‘Debbie and Andrew’s sausages’. When the original brand was bought out by a large chain, the couple decided to set about rebuilding.

“‘What the heck’ is a simple motto that encapsulates the uncompromising attitude our family has towards sausages,” said Debbie.

“It inspired us to start again – with a new brand and a new name.

“HECK needed to stand out from the already crowded sausage shelves, including those that already bore our own names.

“We took a unit in the newly-opened food centre (at the Leeming Bar Food Enterprise Centre) and began putting together our ideas.

“Leeming Bar has since given birth to our full range of gluten free products, from standard bangers to our fair and square sausages that cook quickly and fit into sandwiches and our healthy chicken italia, which are used by slimmers.

“It is a fantastic facility as it is a ready made unit.

“We just fitted it out and brought in the team.”

“It was a valuable time for us and we are looking forward to seeing the programme.

“The last few years have been a challenging time but we are once more a family-owned business with our own factory in control of our production,” added Debbie.

The programme runs at 9pm on Monday on BBC2.
