BUSINESSES are backing book festivals in Harrogate, which include a literature festival and the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival.

Raworths Solicitors have sponsored the literature festival for three, while T&R Theakstons have sponsored the Crime Writing Festival for ten years.

Sharon Canvar, chief executive of organisers, Harrogate International Festivals, said: “Only two per cent of our income is from public money and so we are very welcome of business support.

“Harrogate attracts the biggest names, which shows what’s possible when the business community steps up for the arts.”

This year’s literature Festival, which starts tomorrow, features Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Timothy West and Kate Adie, while headline authors at the crime writing festival include JK Rowling’s only UK appearance in 2014.
