A SPECIALIST manufacturer of plastic equipment for the food industry has achieved formal accreditation for its environmental policies.

Pocklington-based Detectamet has been presented with a certificate of conformity to the International Standards Organisation’s criteria for an Environmental Management System.

The ISO 14001 provides assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved.

Angela Musson the company’s managing director said: "We have tried to restrain our environmental impact for a number of years and I believed it was important that Detectamet had a more formal structure to manage this important activity.

"I am very pleased that our Environmental Management system has met with approval.”

Detectamet’s business involves manufacturing detectable equipment for the food and pharmaceutical industries, which are distributed all around the world.

Ms Musson added: “By applying good environmental management practices. I anticipate that we will be able to control, and even lower distribution costs.”
