BARRATT Developments has acquired more land in Yorkshire than any other housebuilder in the region last year according to new figures.

Data from Land Registration figures for 2013 showed the firm accounted for 39 per cent of all completed land transactions.

Barratt Developments, which includes both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, acquired land for more than 2531 new build plots in Yorkshire.

Paul Newman, managing director of Barratt Developments in Yorkshire East, which is based in York, said: "Building enough housing to meet demand in this country is a major challenge in the current climate.

"Thanks to schemes such as Help to Buy, the market has moved extremely quickly over the last year, but we are well aware that there is still simply not enough quality housing stock in Yorkshire at the moment.

"Obviously the first step towards addressing this is successful land acquisition, and we are working exceedingly hard to do just that.

"Hopefully these statistics demonstrate just how committed we are to that goal.

"Of course, much of our success is down to the resilience of the Yorkshire economy and its ability to bounce back so strongly in the last 12 months. We very much intend to continue our land acquisition in the coming years, so we’re extremely optimistic about our future in Yorkshire."
