LAND which forms part of a develop-ment site in Selby earmarked for almost 900 new homes has been put up for sale.

Savills Leeds has been instructed to sell the plot, which forms part of the Olympia Park development site, which will cater for 863 new homes.

The land, on Barlby Road, is one of the North’s largest mixed develop-ment sites, with outline planning permission to come to market in recent times.

Olympia Park also includes plans for a link road, retail, a care home, foot-ball pitches, allotments, cycle lanes, a new school and a neighbourhood centre and new employment access roads.

Simon Douglas, residential devel-opment director at Savills, said: “We expect the land at Olympia Park will appeal to national house-builders, while an infrastructure partner may also be sought, to ensure roads are realised to cater for the new homes and employment land.”

Olympia Park has already been included within Selby’s Local Plan for residential development, and the site’s section 106 agreement, which agrees on homes and facilities for local people, is expected to be finalised shortly by Selby District Council and the landowners.

Mary Weastell, chief executive of Selby District Council, said: “Olympia Park signals that Selby is open for business; the plans will deliver homes and boost job opportunities, delivering much-needed facilities for local people and access to employment land for the future of our town.”

“The site is an important gateway into Selby and its development will improve first impressions of our town for residents and visitors alike.”

The site is being marketed on behalf of BOCM PAULS Ltd, with Spawforths providing planning advice.
