A NORTH Yorkshire specialist tax advisory business has reported turn over of £400,000 in its first year trading.

Set up by two former HMRC tax inspectors, Gary Brothers and Stephen Outhwaite, Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP now acts for more than 100 different clients.

The Harrogate-based firm, which provides tax and risk management advice, has also doubled its workforce and is looking to broaden its reach to mainland Europe, assisting ex-pats with a variety of tax issues.

It is also the only Yorkshire company to be nominated for this year’s Taxation Awards, having been shortlisted in the “Tax Investigations Team of the Year” category.

Mr Brothers said: “Launching Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP was very much a leap of faith. In the last 12 months we have gone from nought to more than 100 clients and our turnover has surpassed our initial expectations by a country mile.

“When Stephen and I decided to jump ship to work together it was a huge decision, going from the comfort of paid employment to self employment, but without a shadow of a doubt it has been one of the best decisions of my life.

“We are incredibly fortunate. to be supported by the clients we have.”

Mr Outhwaite said: “It has been an incredibly exciting year for us. Ending our first 12 months in business with a nomination for the national Taxation Awards really is the icing on the cake.

“We are now looking to significantly develop the business and take Independent Tax and Forensic Services LLP to the next level.”
